Promoter Eddie Hearn has revealed that he is prepared to offer Amir Khan a 60% split of the purse in order to agree terms for a Wembley showdown with IBF welterweight champion Kell Brook.
On Friday afternoon, Khan took to Twitter to hit back at claims that "middle men" stopped a fight with Manny Pacquiao taking place and to give an update on negotiations with Matchroom representative Hearn and rival Brook, with a date of June 4 being reserved for a potential bout at Wembley Stadium.
However, after Khan criticised Brook's choice of opponent for March 26 - his mandatory challenger Kevin Bizier - the former world super-lightweight champion tweeted Brook's demands, which were immediately denied by Hearn.
Brook wants 50/50 split with me, Wake up son and smell the coffee! be realistic and make it happen, even Eddie told you your not worth that!— Amir Khan (@AmirKingKhan) January 22, 2016
Khan's outburst on social media resulted in a response from Hearn, who said that a split of 60-40 in Khan's favour would be enough to get a deal over the line.
He asked for a £10m guarantee with upside to fight Brook with Kell getting approx £2 to £2.5m. After I spat my coffee out we said no thanks— Eddie Hearn (@EddieHearn) January 22, 2016
Since then I have been in discussions with Al Haymons team to try and get this made. We are willing to take the smaller split to get this— Eddie Hearn (@EddieHearn) January 22, 2016
made but enough of the insults. @AmirKingKhan we will make this easy for you 60-40 in your favour (Kell is World Champ) and you have it.— Eddie Hearn (@EddieHearn) January 22, 2016
After making a return to the ring in March, Khan has signalled his intention to face the winner of the WBC title clash between Danny Garcia and Robert Guerrero after being made mandatory challenger for the belt.
A second meeting with Garcia has always been a main aim of Khan after he lost his WBC and WBA super-lightweight bout with the American in July 2012, and it appears that contest will take place in the summer should Garcia prevail in Los Angeles this weekend.
