George Groves receives death threat from gangsters

George Groves has been warned by police that a death threat has been issued against him.

Hounslow CID informed the British and Commonwealth super-middleweight champion that gangsters intended to shoot him during his now-cancelled title defence against Kenny Anderson.

Groves withdrew from the fight, which was scheduled to take place at Wembley tomorrow night, after failing a fitness test.

The Boxing Board confirmed that Groves was unable to take part in the match due to a back injury he sustained in training last week.

Groves's promoter Frank Warren and his trainer Adam Booth are yet to comment on the death threat reports.
