Frankie Gavin: 'I have the skills to defeat Kell Brook'

British welterweight Frankie Gavin believes that he has the skills to dethrone IBF champion Kell Brook if they meet at the O2 Arena on May 30.

British welterweight Frankie Gavin has revealed that he will be "100% ready" for Kell Brook should they strike a deal to fight for the IBF title in London on May 30.

Gavin had been scheduled to face South African Chris van Heerden on May 9 in a fight that was made to continue the Birmingham fighter's development, but those plans have seemingly been shelved after Gavin was placed into a IBF final eliminator with Timothy Bradley.

However, rather than travelling to the United States to face Bradley, Gavin is reportedly closing in on a deal to challenge Brook at the O2 Arena, and the former world amateur champion believes that he has the skills to overcome his British rival.

The 29-year-old is quoted by BBC Sport as saying: "I'm not stupid. I'm not delusional. I'm going to have to perform out of my skin if I'm to win, but I'm going to be 100% ready.

"I've definitely got it in me to do it. I'm very confident Kell can be beaten and hopefully it's someone with my skills who will do it."

Matchroom Sport have called a press conference for Friday lunchtime where a third world title fight will be added to the bill alongside Kevin Mitchell's WBC lightweight bout against Jorge Linares and Lee Selby's attempt to win the IBF featherweight crown from Evgeny Gradovich.
