Tyson Fury targets David Haye replacement

Tyson Fury's uncle Peter reveals that three American heavyweights lead the list of opponents targeted to replace David Haye for a bout on February 8.

Tyson Fury's trainer has insisted that the withdrawal of David Haye from their rearranged February 8 showdown was "no surprise", while revealing a trio of American heavyweights his team are targeting as replacements.

Haye confirmed earlier today he has been forced out of the domestic dust-up after having reconstructive shoulder surgery in Germany on Thursday, with doctors advising him that retirement is a distinct possibility.

Peter Fury, the trainer and uncle of unbeaten heavyweight Tyson, has declared that his nephew still intends to fight on that date in Manchester, with Deontay Wilder among the list of opponents being considered.

He told Boxing Scene: "This is no surprise, it's been expected. We will get Tyson out on that date.

"We want Bermane Stiverne, Chris Arreola or Deontay Wilder and will stay in training for that date."

The Hayemaker's career-threatening injury means that a fight first booked for September 28 is now definitely off the table, leaving Fury to re-evaluate his options for 2014.
