Carl Froch: 'Floyd Mayweather Jr is ageing, it's time for him to lose'

Carl Froch believes that now is 'the time to lose' for Floyd Mayweather Jr against Manny Pacquiao as the American is an ageing boxer at 38.

WBA super-middleweight champion Carl Froch believes that with Floyd Mayweather Jr at 38 years of age, now is the best time for Manny Pacquiao to administer the blow and give the American his first professional defeat.

The pound-for-pound king has won all of his 47 bouts so far and has been widely tipped to win on points when he goes toe to toe with the Filipino fighter in Las Vegas on Saturday.

Mayweather has crafted his defensive game to perfection, and while Froch believes that the American will edge it, the Nottingham-born fighter is confident that Pacquiao can "outwork" his opponent.

"I can see how Manny Pacquiao is able to beat Mayweather - work the angles, high work-rate, volume of punches, fast hands, back Floyd into a corner or onto the ropes," BBC Sport quotes Froch as saying. "Just outwork Mayweather and win round after round after round.

"Mayweather is just too good at adjusting, changing his style, adapting to what's in front of him. If there's ever a time for Mayweather to lose, that time is now, he's an ageing athlete. But I'm going for a close Mayweather points win."

The showdown at the MGM Grand Garden Arena will be the richest fight of the century.
