Frampton announces Santa Cruz rematch

WBA world featherweight champion Carl Frampton has announced that he will take on Leo Santa Cruz in a rematch.

The 29-year-old Irishman defeated Santa Cruz on points in Brooklyn three months ago to become a two-weight world champion.

Santa Cruz's father Jose recently claimed that a rematch was on the cards, with Las Vegas and Los Angeles being touted as potential hosts.

On Thursday, Frampton confirmed the news that he will take on the 28-year-old Mexican fighter again.

He tweeted: "Done deal! The rematch vs @leosantacruz2 is on!!! More news to come soon #AndStill."

Frampton defeated Kiko Martinez on points to take the IBF super bantamweight belt in September 2014, and went on to successfully defend the title twice.

The Belfast-born boxer earned the WBA super bantamweight crown by beating Scott Quigg in February, before facing Santa Cruz after stepping up a weight division.
