Luke Campbell takes break from boxing after father is diagnosed with cancer

Luke Campbell reveals that he is taking a break from boxing after his father was diagnosed with cancer.

Luke Campbell has confirmed that he is taking a break from boxing after his father was diagnosed with cancer.

The 26-year-old was expected to fight for the sixth time as a professional in Manchester this Saturday, but he has pulled out of the bout to spend more time with his family.

"Following my father's cancer diagnosis, I have decided to take a break from competing," the Olympic gold medallist revealed on his website.

"The last few months have been particularly difficult for my family and I and it's been hard to focus on my training.

"Anyone that knows me will tell you how meticulous I am with my preparation going into a fight. With this in mind, I feel it is only right to be with my family at this difficult time until I can fully focus on my boxing."

Campbell has won all five of his bouts since turning professional last year.

Carl Froch and George Groves go head to head to promote their upcoming fight during a press conference at the Radisson Blu Edwardian Hotel on September 17, 2013
