WBO lightweight champion Ricky Burns admits that he expects opponent Jose Gonzalez to provide him with a tough challenge when they meet in the ring next weekend.

WBO lightweight champion Ricky Burns has indicated that his preparation has gone well ahead of his title defence against Jose Gonzalez next weekend.

Burns faces the unbeaten Puerto Rican in Glasgow in what is the third defence of his world title, and he has admitted that he needs to be wary of a man who has defeated 17 of his 22 opponents inside the distance.

The 30-year-old told reporters: "I can't look past Gonzalez. It's going to be a tough fight. Although we can't get much footage of the boy, there are clips on YouTube of him knocking boys out.

"He is a big puncher. He's got 22 wins, 17 by way of knockout, so his record speaks for itself.

"I'm going to be prepared for whatever happens on the night and the training and the sparring has gone well."

The Scot is defending his title for the first time since September, when he defeated Kevin Mitchell inside four rounds.
