Former English NBA player expects struggle for basketball team

Former English basketball player John Amaechi has revealed he believes that Team GB's basketball team will struggle at the Olympic Games.

Amaechi, who played for Orlando Magic in the NBA, has insisted that GB basketball should have focused on developing players rather than selecting a side specifically for this year's Olympics.

Amaechi told BBC Sport: "It is going to be very difficult. At no point should we have been looking to assemble an all-star team of 'plastic Brits'.

"We should have been using the Games as an opportunity to fast-track some of the amazing talent that is under-developed because of the lack of resources or lack of funding."

The Team GB basketball team begin their Olympic campaign against Russia on Sunday night.
