Report: Anderson Varejao close to Cleveland Cavaliers extension

Report: Varejao close to extension

The Cleveland Cavaliers are reportedly nearing an agreement on a contract extension with center Anderson Varejao.

It is reported that Varejao could sign a new three-year contract which would start at the end of his current deal, which expires in 2015.

The Brazilian has spent his entire NBA career with the Cavaliers after Cleveland acquired his rights during the 2004 Draft.

Varejao appeared in 65 games last season and averaged 8.4 points and 9.7 rebounds in 27.7 minutes per game, and the 32-year-old started for the Cavaliers in Thursday's season opener against the New York Knicks.

Tristan Thompson, who came off the bench as back-up for Varejao, is also hoping to sign a contract extension before Friday's deadline.
