Scotland miss out on women's singles gold

Michelle Li has won Canada's first ever women's singles badminton gold at the Commonwealth Games by comfortably seeing off Scotland's Kirsty Gilmour in the final.

The 22-year-old took the first game 21-14 at the Emirates Arena, and raced into a 20-6 lead in the second which Gilmour was unable to turn around.

The Team Scotland competitor jokingly rallied the crowd knowing that she faced a virtually impossible task of saving 15 match points, eventually losing the game 21-7.

India's Pusarla Venkata Sindhu completes the podium, having edged out Jing Yi Tee of Malaysia in yesterday's bronze-medal match.
