Cheptegei storms to gold in 10,000m

Uganda's Joshua Cheptegei has claimed his second gold of the Commonwealth Games with victory in the men's 10,000m race.

The 21-year-old triumphed in the 5,000m event on Sunday and was in fine form again tonight, setting a new Games record with a time of 27:19.62.

Heading into the final lap things looked to be a two-horse race between Cheptegei and Canada's Mohammed Ahmed but Cheptegi broke clear with the finish line in sight, leaving Ahmed to settle for silver with a time of 27:20.56.

Kenya took the final spot on the podium, Rodgers Kwemoi producing a season's-best performance to clinch bronze with a time of 27:28.66.

Team England's Andrew Vernon was almost a minute behind Cheptegei, finishing ninth in a time of 28:17.11.
