Moses Kipsiro takes gold in thrilling 10,000m final at Commonwealth Games

Kipsiro wins thrilling 10,000m final

A dramatic 10,000m final came down to a dip at the line as Uganda's Moses Kipsiro clinched the gold medal at the Commonwealth Games on Friday night.

It was a group of seven who broke away from the rest of the field on the final lap, but the race took an interesting turn when Cameron Levins of Canada attacked from the front with 300m remaining.

Levins appeared to be on course for victory on the home straight before a late challenge from Kipsiro and Kenya's Josphat Bett produced a three-way battle for gold.

The Canadian's bid for the title faded in the final 50m, and it was left to Kipsiro to successfully defend his title in a time of 27:56.11.

Bett thought he had beaten his rival on the line, before the times confirmed that he had been edged out by 0.03s, a smaller advantage than Kemar Bailey-Cole had over Adam Gemili in the 100m final.
