Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce too strong for 100m rivals in Beijing

Fraser-Pryce storms to 100m victory

Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce held off an impressive challenge from Dafne Schippers to defend her 100m title at the World Athletics Championships in Beijing this afternoon.

It was the Jamaican who started the race as the firm favourite and she refused to crumble under the pressure on the way to a winning time of 10.76 seconds.

Schippers, who had earlier set a new national record in the semi-final, set another quickest mark for the Netherlands and she appeared to be closing in on a triumph before Fraser-Pryce celebrated a third world gold at the line.

Tori Bowie followed the front two home to pick up the bronze medal, while veteran Jamaican Veronica Campbell-Brown was forced to settle for fourth.
