Israeli athlete Olga Lenskay wanted to beat mother's 200m record

Israel athlete Olga Lenskay has revealed that she was trying to beat her mother's national record while competing in the 200m event at the European Games in Baku this afternoon.

The 22-year-old, who also won the women's 100m yesterday, won the event with a time of 23.40 seconds, just missing Irina Lenskay's Israeli record of 23.15, which she set in 2002.

Lenskay told reporters: "Beating my personal record is a good step in my career. It is really fantastic to hold a record in my country and to do it at international level.

"In Israel my mum is record holder, and that is a motivation for me to beat her time. I am so happy to be following in her footsteps. She is my coach and is training me for all competitions. She helps me so much."

Lenskay has won the national championshps in Israel for the 100m and 200m events four times.
