Team England's Allan Smith "feeling confident" ahead of Commonwealth Games

England's Smith "feeling confident"

Team England high jumper Allan Smith has insisted that he is still "feeling confident" ahead of his Glasgow 2014 campaign, despite a bad showing on the eve of the Games.

The 21-year-old finished in last place at the Sainsbury's Anniversary Games in London last weekend, as he reached a height of just 2.16m.

Despite this, Smith is hopeful that he can put the disappointment behind him in the Commonwealth Games.

"That competition was not great, to be honest," he told Barnet Today. "A big height is in the tank just waiting to come out, but it hasn't happened yet, which is frustrating for me.

"I'm not sure why it is not happening and that is why it is so frustrating, but now I am ready to go out and attack the Commonwealth Games.

"I am still feeling confident and I know I can perform well. I always do when there are medals up for grabs. I know coming into championships that I am there to fight and get up on the podium if I can."

Smith won a bronze medal at the 2013 European Under-23 Championships.
