Chen Ding wins men's 20km walk

Chen Ding breaks away from the field in the final 4km to claim gold in the men's 20km walk.

Chen Ding has won gold in the men's 20km walk with a dominant performance in London.

The field started to separate at the 12km mark after a number of athletes had stormed to the front to force many walkers out of their comfort zone.

A breakaway group started to form in the latter stages of the race with the Chinese duo of Ding and Zhen Wang leading the athletes.

Ding was able to accelerate in the final 6km and was looked relaxed as he crossed the finishing line in a time of one hour 18 minutes and 46 seconds to become the Olympic champion.

Valeriy Borchin looked destined for a medal but the Russian collapsed inside the final kilometre before quickly being treated by a medical team.

Guatemala's Erick Barrondo managed to safely claim the silver medal with Wang taking advantage of Borchin's exhaustion to take the bronze medal.
