George O'Leary: 'Blake Bortles needs fine-tuning'

UCF Knight coach George O'Leary believes that quarterback Blake Bortles will need to be "fine-tuned" in order to succeed in the NFL.

UCF Knights coach George O'Leary has said that Blake Bortles will need to be "fine-tuned" in order to play in the NFL.

The quarterback is expected to be one of the top picks in this year's Draft, having completed 3,581 passing yards, 25 touchdown passes and six rushing touchdowns during the 2013 college season.

The 67-year-old told Sports Radio 610: "I think a franchise quarterback comes out once every 10 years, and he came out last year in [Indianapolis Colts quarterback Andrew] Luck. The ones I see succeed are understudies.

"Blake has all the things you're looking for in a quarterback as far as size and mental capacity to handle a lot of things. But that first year is tough because those guys are moving a lot faster than the college guys.

"Blake is going to be fine-tuned to what he needs to get done in the pro ranks."

Bortles helped UCF to a 12-1 record and its first BCS Bowl last season.
