Russell Wilson: "I had no doubt in play call"

Seattle Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson defends the decision to throw the ball in the final seconds of Super Bowl XLIX.

Quarterback Russell Wilson has said that he has no issues with the decision to throw the ball instead of run it in the final seconds of Super Bowl XLIX.

Wilson's Seattle Seahawks were trailing by four points in the dying seconds of the game against New England Patriots, but they had a chance to snatch success when they had the ball just one metre short of the goalline.

Wilson was told by coach Pete Carroll to throw the ball instead of hand it to running back Marshawn Lynch, but his throw was intercepted by the Patriots' Malcolm Butler.

Of the call, Wilson told ESPN: "I had no doubt in the play call. I still don't to this day. It looked open enough. When I threw it, it was, 'Touchdown. Second Super Bowl ring. Here we go.'"

New England Patriots won the game 28-24.
