San Francisco 49ers to implement new zone running game this season

49ers plan to use new zone system

Running back Carlos Hyde has revealed that the San Francisco 49ers will use a more rounded running game this season.

Hyde is set to take over from Frank Gore, who has joined the Indianapolis Colts, as the team's lead runner, and offensive coach Chris Foerster is keen to use zone concepts.

Hyde told the Sacramento Bee: "We'll implement some of that stuff, like the stretch zone more so than we have in the past.

"But we're still going to do what we've done well here. What's worked for us has been power running. It's what we know. We'll definitely implement all styles."

Hyde scored four touchdowns in 14 games last season.
