New York Jets' Rex Ryan bemoans multiple penalty concessions

Ryan bemoans penalty concessions

New York Jets head coach Rex Ryan is concerned that giving away needless penalties could cost his side after their concessions broke franchise records on Sunday.

Despite an excellent 27-20 win over divisional rivals the Buffalo Bills in which their offensive unit produced 513 yards from scrimmage, 20 first downs and five scoring drives, the 11 penalties conceded meant that Ryan feels that there is still plenty of work to do.

"Yeah, I'm upset because of the penalties," Ryan told Jets.com. "We think we're working hard at it, but we have to find a way to get better.

"How many games are you going to win when you turn the ball over twice and commit 20 penalties? We have to get rid of the self-inflicted things which could cost us. We've been one of the least penalised teams in the league, so I know we can get this fixed.

"That's kind of what excites me: How good can this team be when we eliminate the self-inflicted wounds? We all can take responsibility for it, but it starts with me. We will get it corrected. I will get it corrected."

Ryan's 2-1 Jets travel to the Tennessee Titans next Sunday in the NFL.
