New York Jets fire Tony Sparano

The New York Jets have confirmed that Tony Sparano has been relieved of his duties as offensive coordinator.

Head coach Rex Ryan announced the firing at a press conference this afternoon.

Ryan told reporters: "At the end of the day, I wanted to move this team in a different direction offensively."

The Jets have already fired general manager Mike Tannenbaum, after the team missed out on the post-season playoffs for a second consecutive year.
