New Orleans Saints stun San Francisco 49ers with last-gasp win

Saints stun 49ers with last-gasp win

Garrett Hartley's field goal three seconds from full time has helped the New Orleans Saints make it six wins in a row at the Superdome, completing a 23-20 comeback victory over the San Francisco 49ers.

The Saints had started brightly on home soil to break the deadlock late in the first quarter, with Drew Brees finishing a 94-yard drive by finding Josh Hill free in the end zone.

San Francisco responded quickly in the second quarter and levelled with a touchdown from Anquan Boldin, before Phil Dawson nudged the visitors ahead with a 55-yard field goal.

New Orleans came back fighting and reclaimed the lead just before half time as Jed Collins drove into the end zone from close range, but a topsy-turvy clash continued after the break thanks to a score from the 49ers.

Colin Kaepernick and Vernon Davis combined to give San Francisco the edge early in the third quarter, with Dawson's second field goal moving the 49ers 20-14 ahead.

From there Hartley's trusty boot proved decisive, with his second effort levelling the match at 20 points apiece just before the two-minute warning.

With time running out, New Orleans drove back into field-goal range as Brees found Jimmy Graham, with Harley applying the finishing touch from 31 yards as the Saints improved their record to 8-2.
