Toby Gerhart: 'Vikings fans rue missed Draft opportunity'

Gerhart: 'Fans wanted better Draft pick'

Minnesota Vikings running back Toby Gerhart has spoken of the win which cost the franchise the chance to pick Robert Griffin III in the 2012 NFL Draft.

A rare win late in the 2011 season elevated the Vikings to a better record than the Washington Redskins, but victory allowed their opponents that night to go on and select the Heisman Trophy-winning Baylor quarterback as the second overall pick.

Two years on, Gerhart is still being asked about the game, as his team sit at 1-7 and still very much unsettled at quarterback, with Christian Ponder, Matt Cassell and Josh Freeman all sharing duties so far this season.

Gerhart told Tri-City Herald.com: "I remember right after we beat Washington in 2011, everybody was like, 'Why'd you beat Washington?'

"We were trying to play well and get a win for each other and the fans. Then we finally get a win and they say, 'Ah, man, you should have lost because we'd get a better Draft pick.' Which would've been RGIII. It's a no-win situation for us."

The Vikings face the Redskins in the Thursday night game this week.
