Vikings quarterback Ponder: 'We want to get Cordarrelle Patterson involved more'

Minnesota Vikings quarterback Christian Ponder expects to be using Cordarrelle Patterson more in the coming games, although declares that Jerome Simpson remains his number one target.

Minnesota Vikings quarterback Christian Ponder has said that he expects rookie wideout Cordarrelle Patterson to be more involved in the offensive game.

Ponder did suggest however that the form of Jerome Simpson will see him remain as his number one target, but that doesn't mean there isn't a place for Patterson to make some big plays.

"Cordarrelle is great with the ball in his hands," Ponder told Vikings.com. "We want to continue to get him involved and he's made plays for us already, he's a great player.

"The problem is he's behind a guy (Simpson) who is number four in the league in average yards per catch. But Cordarrelle has a great knack of making guys miss and finding holes and making plays with his legs. So we'll continue to get him those balls and give him that ability to do so and then he'll keep developing his routes down field."

Patterson began last Sunday's game with the Chicago Bears by scoring a 105-yard kick return after just 12 seconds.
