Smith bemoans Chiefs turnovers

Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Alex Smith has admitted that turnovers hurt his side during yesterday's 23-7 defeat to the Indianapolis Colts.

The Chiefs made a good start to the match when they scored a touchdown on their opening possession, but they were unable to breach the Colts defence again as they fell to a defeat that handed the AFC West title to the Denver Broncos.

Smith threw two interceptions while his side also fumbled the ball twice, leaving the 29-year-old in no doubt where they went wrong.

"The way we opened up, marching down the way we did, it felt like things were going to be the way they've been," Smith told The AP.

"We really didn't get into a rhythm after that, didn't execute in any area, and then the turnovers. The turnovers hurt you."

The Chiefs will face the San Diego Chargers in the final match of their regular season on Sunday.
