Charles agrees new Chiefs contract

Jamaal Charles has signed a two-year contract extension with the Kansas City Chiefs less than a day after skipping practice.

The running back, who threatened to hold out of training camp in order to get a new deal with the AFC West side, had two years remaining on his contract, but had been due just $3.65m (£2.15m) in 2014.

NFL Media reports that the new contract is worth $18.1m (£10.6m) in new money, including an additional $5m (£2.9m) over the next two years, making him one of the highest-paid running backs in the NFL.

Charles had a total 1,980 yards from scrimmage in 2013 and 19 touchdowns.
