Kubiak: 'Smith knee surgery was successful'

Gary Kubiak has said that Wade Smith has had surgery to clean up his knee after missing practice with the Houston Texans for the last week.

The Pro Bowl guard, who is preparing for his third season with the team, underwent the procedure earlier today.

The head coach told reporters: "We made a decision last night to have Wade's knee scoped today, so we took an aggressive approach to clean it up. He's already done.

"Everything went good, so now we start the process of coming back. It's going to be a day-to-day deal right now, but he's got some work to do to get back."

Ben Jones replaced Smith in the team's starting lineup for their pre-season win over the Minnesota Vikings last week.

The Texans will not know how long Smith will need to recover until at least next week.
