Half-Time Report: Peyton Manning-less Denver Broncos edging Chicago Bears by four

Broncos edging Bears by four

The Denver Broncos have gone into the halfway stage of their NFL clash with the Chicago Bears at a frosty Soldier Field leading 10-6.

Peyton Manning missed the match due to injury following last week's horror show that saw him withdrawn from the game after throwing four interceptions, with a first career start being handed to Brock Osweiler on his 25th birthday.

The replacement quarterback got off to an ideal start too, finding Demaryius Thomas wide open up the middle to allow the receiver to beat one man on the outside and cross over in the corner for an early lead.

Denver were largely relying on their running game in the absence of Manning, though, and despite making 56 yards in the first quarter - their second-highest total in any quarter this season - they could not add to the score.

The Bears finally got on the board themselves in the second quarter when Robbie Gould fired over a 46-yard field goal, and he added another from 37 yards later in the quarter to reduce the deficit to one point.

The visitors had possession in the redzone at the end of the half, but they were forced to settle for a field goal in the end as Brandon McManus converted from 24 yards to make the lead four at the break.
