Brian Hoyer expected to get start at quarterback against Detroit Lions

The Cleveland Browns are expected to hand a chance to Brian Hoyer to impress at quarterback during the team's pre-season opener against the Detroit Lions.

Coach Mike Pettine has stated that Hoyer will be given the opportunity over Johnny Manziel, although both players are expected to be given some time with the first team.

After the Lions, the Browns will face the Washington Redskins in another warm-up fixture, with Manziel due to be given his own chance to stake a claim for a starting spot.

The new NFL season gets underway on September 4.
