Browns release Campbell

The Cleveland Browns have released quarterback Jason Campbell, the team announced today.

Campbell had only been with the Browns for one season, passing for 2,015 yards, 11 touchdowns and eight interceptions in 2013.

Browns general manager Ray Farmer was quick to express his gratitude to the 32-year-old, who he believes will have a better chance of finding a new team having been released early in free agency.

"We appreciate Jason's contributions to the Browns in 2013. He's a respected veteran player in this league," Farmer said in a statement.

"We felt like at this time, early in the free-agency period, we would give him a better opportunity to move forward. We wish Jason the best in his future endeavors."

Campbell is the second quarterback to be released by the Browns today after they also parted company with former first-round Draft pick Brandon Weeden.
