Chicago Bears fire Lovie Smith

The Chicago Bears have fired head coach Lovie Smith after the team failed to secure a place in the NFL playoffs.

The Bears missed out on the last wildcard spot to NFC North rivals the Minnesota Vikings.

NFL.com reports that Smith met with the Bears' management this morning before being informed of the decision.

The Bears have missed out on the playoffs in five of the last six seasons.
