Half-Time Report: Carolina Panthers leading Jacksonville Jaguars by one

Panthers leading Jaguars by one

The Carolina Panthers have taken a 10-9 lead into the halfway stage of their NFL season opener at the Jacksonville Jaguars.

The reigning NFC South champions entered the match as favourites and sure enough it was the visitors who took the lead when Graham Gano converted a 43-yard field goal.

Gano missed a chance to double that advantage with another kick later in the quarter, though, which allowed Jason Myers to level things up with a field goal of his own.

The mistakes began to rack up on both sides as the half progressed, with Allen Hurns guilty of fumbling the ball for the Jaguars before Cam Newton gifted possession straight back to the hosts via an interception.

Newton atoned for that mistake late in the half, however, throwing a short pass to Jerricho Cotchery to complete a seven-yard score and put his side in control.

The Jaguars hit back in the dying stages of the second quarter when Blake Bortles picked out Rashad Greene with a one-yard pass, but Myers missed the extra point to leave the hosts trailing at the interval.
