Dennis Pitta fractures and dislocates hip in Baltimore Ravens training camp

Pitta fractures hip in training camp

Dennis Pitta has undergone surgery to repair his hip after sustaining a fracture and dislocation during a training camp practice session over the weekend.

The Baltimore Ravens tight end will not play during the 2013 season as a result of the injury, which happened during a collision with safety James Ihedigbo.

The 28-year-old wrote on his Facebook page: "Asking for prayers for a speedy recovery and heal time as I go through this ordeal."

After head coach John Harbaugh confirmed that Pitta will play no part in their 2013 campaign, the Super Bowl champions announced that former Minnesota Vikings and New England Patriots tight end Visanthe Shiancoe has signed a one-year contract with the team.

Pitta recorded 669 receiving yards and seven touchdowns last year.
