The Arizona Cardinals made quarterback Kyler Murray the top pick of the 2019 NFL draft in a first round dominated by defensive linemen.
Here, Press Association Sport answers the burning questions over Thursday night's selections.
Who is Kyler Murray?
The reigning winner of the Heisman Trophy, awarded to college football's best player, was a two-sport standout at Oklahoma and was also picked in the first round of last year's Major League Baseball draft – the first player ever to achieve such a double.
The Oakland Athletics were left to regret allowing him to return to college for a year as a starting quarterback, as a successful year led him to commit to football.
At 5ft 10in and just over 200lbs there were questions over his stature, but the Cardinals will hope his talent – teamed with new head coach Kliff Kingsbury – can lift their anaemic offence.
Which other quarterbacks were taken?
The New York Giants made their move at number six for a potential successor to two-time Super Bowl champion Eli Manning.
Duke's Daniel Jones, rated by most analysts as a low first-round or early second-round pick, was their slightly surprising choice – leaving delighted NFC East rivals the Washington Redskins to swoop on Ohio State's Dwayne Haskins at number 15.
Haskins is a highly touted prospect with a strong arm who will push Case Keenum and Colt McCoy for the Redskins' starting spot in the absence of the injured Alex Smith.
Who were the surprise picks?
Jones aside, the fourth pick was earlier than expected for Clemson defensive end Clelin Ferrell as the Oakland Raiders took their pick of the pass-rush prospects to replace Khalil Mack, traded to the Chicago Bears ahead of last season.
The Detroit Lions made TJ Hockenson the first tight end taken in the top 10 since the Lions themselves took Eric Ebron 10th in 2014 – they will hope the move works out better this time around – while his fellow Iowa tight end Noah Fant went 20th to the Denver Broncos.
Highly-rated Houston defensive tackle Ed Oliver fell to the Buffalo Bills at nine, Jeffery Simmons was taken 19th by the Tennessee Titans despite injury and character concerns and the Seattle Seahawks plumped for TCU defensive end LJ Collier at 29.
Who made waves in trades?
The Pittsburgh Steelers moved up for Denver's number 10 pick to scoop Michigan lineback Devin Bush – filling a position of need and antagonising divisional rivals Cincinnati.
Bush will fill the void left by Ryan Shazier's terrible spinal injury and was widely linked to the Bengals at 11, who had a need at the same position after running out of patience with the controversial Vontaze Burfict.
The Giants traded for a third first-round pick, adding Georgia cornerback DeAndre Baker at 30 to Jones and Clemson DT Dexter Lawrence, while Washington moved for the Indianapolis Colts' number 26 pick after edge rusher Montez Sweat dropped due to concerns over a heart condition.
Who are the top players left on the board?
Drew Lock is the top quarterback remaining on most draft boards and could draw attention early on day two.
The hulking DK Metcalf and his Missisippi college team-mate AJ Brown will be coveted wide receiver prospects while LSU's "Greedy" Williams, Washington's Byron Murphy and Temple's Rock Ya-Sin were first-round contenders at cornerback.
Tackles Jawaan Taylor (Florida) and Dalton Risner (Kansas State), Oklahoma guard Cody Ford and Texas A&M centre Erik McCoy offer offensive line help.
