Isco "very close" to signing new contract with Real Madrid

Isco is happy with the winning mentality in the Real Madrid dressing room and is hopeful of soon extending his contract, which currently has less than 12 months to run.

Real Madrid midfielder Isco has confirmed that he is "very close" to putting pen to paper on a new contract after declaring himself happy at the Bernabeu.

The Spain international has repeatedly outlined his intention to commit to the club, despite strong suggestions in the Spanish press that he is willing to let his contract expire in the next 12 months.

Isco again proved his worth to Madrid on Tuesday night by netting the key second goal in his side's 2-1 win over Manchester United in the UEFA Super Cup, building on his impressive end to the 2016-17 campaign.

Probed on how close he is to agreeing fresh terms, the 25-year-old told reporters: "It will be done soon, we're very close."

On the tight match at the Philip II Arena in Skopje, he added: "Madrid is a very powerful team and we are happy. We played very well as a team and we winning is our obligation.

"United are very good, but we were the best team and we have a spectacular squad with a promising future. The staff are doing a great job, we do not fail because of the relationship in the dressing room. We've built a winning group."

Isco started 18 La Liga games for champions Madrid last season, while also featuring 12 times from the bench.
