Team GB's Eve Muirhead: 'There can be no excuses'

Great Britain's women's curling skip Eve Muirhead admits that her team are one of the favourites to win gold at the Winter Olympics.

Great Britain's women's curling skip Eve Muirhead has said that there can be 'no excuses' for her team if they fail to win the gold medal at the Winter Olympics.

Team GB are the current women's world championship holders, and Muirhead believes that they are among the favourites.

She told the Daily Record: "We want to go home from Sochi with no regrets – not wishing that we changed anything – and if so, we will be happy.

"As a team we know how much practice, how much training we put in to become world champions, so we know how much we have to put in to become Olympic champions.

"We know how to win major championships and we know we're one of the favourites, so there's not a lot of excuses."

The 23-year-old also believes that if her team put in a good performance in Sochi, then the profile of the sport may rise in Great Britain.

"Curling is one of those sports that usually gets publicity once every four years, but now that's getting better and it's important we capitalise on that," she said.

The Great Britain team of Muirhead, Anna Sloan, Vicki Adams, Claire Hamilton and alternate Lauren Gray are currently taking on Sweden in their round-robin opener.
