Eve Muirhead rues Great Britain's luck against Canada

Great Britain women's curling skip Eve Muirhead claims that the curling Gods were not with her team as they lost their Winter Olympics semi-final to Canada.

Eve Muirhead has claimed that the curling Gods were against Great Britain's women's team after a stray brush hair contributed to their semi-final defeat to Canada at the Winter Olympics in Sochi.

The GB skip missed a take-out in the first end after her stone deviated on the ice after going over the debris, which allowed the Canadians to move into a two-shot lead.

Muirhead has said that bad luck was the last thing that she needed against Canada, who have won all 10 of their games in Sochi so far.

"I'm gutted and the girls are gutted as well. I just don't think that the curling Gods were with us," BT Sport quotes Muirhead as saying.

"That first end, that pick-up was brutal. It was a hair from one of the brushes, it just caught the stone. There is nothing you can do when a you get a little bit of debris on the ice but losing a two from something that you can't control against Canada, it's going to be tough to come back.

"We did come back but anything we left them, they made today. Sport is tough sometimes, sport can be brutal and that proved that it was tough."

Muirhead's team will play Switzerland for the bronze medal on Thursday morning.
