Great Britain's Jon Eley encouraged by Sochi display

Jon Eley admits his disappointment at failing to compete in the men's 500m final in Sochi, but is pleased with his overall performance at the 2014 Games.

Team GB speed skater Jon Eley has said that he is "very disappointed" to have failed to qualify for the men's 500m final at the Winter Olympics.

However, Great Britain's flagbearer at the opening ceremony of the 2014 Games, who finished third in the B final, insists that he has enjoyed his experience in Sochi.

"I'm very disappointed not to get to the final but I am pretty pleased with the way I have turned my season around," he told Team GB's official website.

"The past couple of days I have been skating better than I have ever skated before.

"I was feeling up for it, I skated beautifully in the quarter-final and it was just a slip in the semi-final cost me."

Victor Ahn of Russia won gold in the men's 500m short track event on Friday.
