Great Britain's Elise Christie: 'I'm skating better than ever'

Great Britain's Elise Christie says that she is skating 'the best she has ever done' ahead of the 500m short track skating qualifiers.

Great Britain's Elise Christie has said that she is 'skating better than ever' ahead of today's short track skating qualifiers.

The 23-year-old will compete in the 500m heats at 10:30am GMT this morning, and she is confident that she can progress to Thursday's quarter-final.

"I don't feel too much pressure, it's just good to get the support," she told the Nottingham Post. "You can't base your dreams in this sport solely on an Olympic medal, because you need things to go right on the day.

"I know that I'm driven, committed and I train really hard and I can't base my whole career just one how I do in this competition.

"However, I'm definitely skating the best I've ever skated and you can't say anymore than that when you arrive at the Olympics."

Despite Christie's confidence over 500m, her favoured discipline is the 1000m, and she has said that she isn't getting worked up about the shorter distance event.

"If my first event here is terrible and everything goes wrong, it means absolutely nothing.

"Every day is a new day and you can get a completely different performance off me one hour to the next hour.

"It's a great strength and a great weakness of mine."

Christie will compete in the 1000m short track skating on Tuesday, February 18.
