Adelina Sotnikova wins gold in women's figure skating

Adelina Sotnikova has become Russia's first women's figure skating champion after triumphing at the Winter Olympic Games in Sochi.

Sotnikova had scored 74.64 in the short programme before producing a score of 149.95 in the free programme to take home the gold medal.

A double axel and triple toe-loop in the Russian's routine won over the judges.

Kim Yuna of Korea could only take silver, while Italy's Carolina Kostner won bronze.
