Dimitris Minasidis collects 62kg gold as Gareth Evans finishes fifth

Minasidis takes 62kg gold

Dimitris Minasidis of Cyprus has claimed the gold medal in the 62kg class, with Gareth Evans only managing to deliver a fifth-place finish for Wales.

A total lift of 276kg was enough to secure the gold for Minasidis ahead of Sri Lanka'a Sudesh Peiris in Glasgow.

Peiris was 3kg behind his rival, while Samoa's Vaipava Ioane managed to hold off the challenge from Morea Baru of Papa New Guinea to claim the bronze medal.

Despite missing out on a medal, Evans was able to set a new personal best with a total weight of 268kg, with England's Jaswant Shergill finishing 11th in the final.
