Gilles Simon happy to get through five-set epic at Wimbledon

Gilles Simon admits that he is "very happy" to have seen off fellow Frenchman Gael Monfils in five sets to reach the last 16 of Wimbledon.

Gilles Simon has revealed that he is "very happy to get through" his third-round clash with fellow Frenchman Gael Monfils at Wimbledon.

The 12th seed earned a dramatic five-set win on Saturday after play was moved from Court One to under the roof on Centre Court due to bad light.

Simon, 30, will now face sixth seed Tomas Berdych in the last 16.

When asked what kind of effect changing courts had on him and Monfils, Simon told reporters: "We were ready for that. Of course it's difficult - we had played more than two hours and we were really tired. The crowd were having a lot of fun and I am very happy to get through this one."

Simon has never progressed beyond the fourth round of Wimbledon.
