Andy Murray survives Robin Haase scare

Murray survives Haase scare

Andy Murray has beaten Robin Haase in four sets in his first-round match at the US Open, despite struggling with multiple injuries throughout the tie.

The Briton seemed to be in for an easy afternoon when he won the first four games of the opening set, which he wrapped up 6-3.

Haase provided more of a test in the second, initially going a break up before the 2012 champion got the set back on level terms, going on to win it in a tie-break.

However, Murray appeared to be plagued by hamstring and shoulder injuries in the third, which allowed the Dutch player to pull a set back.

Haase needed treatment from the trainer in the fourth set after struggling with an ankle problem, but raced to a 4-1 lead as he tried to level the match.

Despite continuing to struggle, Murray came back before breaking his opponent at 5-5 to leave himself serving for the match.

Haase dug deep as he tried to take the set to a tie-break, while Murray's shoulder problem made serving difficult, but the Scot held on just long enough to progress to the next round, where he will face Germany's Matthias Bachinger.
