Juan Martin del Potro beats Roger Federer in Swiss Indoor Final

Del Potro beats Federer at Swiss Indoors

Juan Martin Del Potro edged hometown favourite Roger Federer in a final-set tie-break to win the Swiss Indoors title.

Del Potro got off to a good start, forcing Federer to hold his opening serve well, before he managed the break on Federer's third serve to lead 3-2.

Despite Federer taking his next two service games to love, Del Potro was serving well and wrapped up the opening set without too much trouble.

Del Potro saved a break point in his opening service game of the second set, but recovered to start putting the Federer serve under consistent pressure. Federer was taken to deuce three times in a row before battling back to hold.

The Argentine stayed strong on serve to hold comfortably as the second set continued to remain a tight affair.

Indeed, neither man could break the other so the set went to a tie-break. Federer took the early lead in the breaker and stayed a mini-break ahead of Del Potro to level the match.

Federer tried to gain control early in the deciding set, but saw Del Potro held off four break-point chances with a series of magnificent defensive shots.

Both players fought bravely to force the match into a deciding tie-break, a situation Del Potro quickly used to his advantage.

The 24-year-old took the match on the first of three championship points to win his second successive tournament after claiming the Vienna Open last week.
