Andy Murray has eased into the third round of the Shanghai Masters after defeating Steve Johnson in straight sets.
The British number one needed one hour and 14 minutes to see off his American opponent 6-2 6-4.
Murray made a slow start, though, allowing Johnson to break in the first game. The world number two responded quickly, as a number of unforced errors from Johnson allowed him to break twice on his way to opening up a 5-2 lead before Murray struck once more to claim the first set.
The second set was a more evenly-contested affair as Johnson, ranked 47 in the ATP rankings, upped his game and the set looked to be heading to a tie-break after it had gone with serve throughout.
However, with the score at 5-4 to Murray, Johnson allowed the Scot to break, with an overhit forehand giving him the set and the match.
Murray will face another American in the form of John Isner in the next round.
