Feliciano Lopez overcomes John Isner to book spot in last eight of Shanghai Masters

Feliciano Lopez has defeated John Isner in straight sets to secure his place in the quarter-finals of the Shanghai Masters.

The Spaniard, who overcame Rafael Nadal in the last round, continued his strong run with a 6-3 6-4 triumph this afternoon.

The first set went the way of serve until the eighth game, at which point Lopez broke his opponent to get a foothold in the set, before eventually going on to wrap up the opener.

Lopez also held his serve throughout the second set, although he wasted one match point, which Isner was unable to capitalise on, bringing to an end the American pro's participation in the tournament.

Mikhail Youzhny or Juan Monaco await the world number 21 in the next round.
