Ana Ivanovic ousts Venus Williams at China Open

Venus Williams loses in the second round of the China Open to Ana Ivanovic, just three days after she won the Wuhan Open.

Venus Williams has been beaten in the second round of the China Open by Ana Ivanovic.

Williams, who won the Wuhan Open on Saturday, will not make it back-to-back tournament victories after going down 7-6[3] 6-2 in just over an hour and a half.

The pair exchanged a break each in the first set, with Ivanovic winning the tie-break before Williams capitulated in the second set.

The veteran broke to lead 2-0 but then lost six games on the spin as Ivanovic, of Serbia, romped to victory.

Ivanovic, the sixth seed, will take on 2009 champion Svetlana Kuznetsova in round three.
