Carlos Berlocq wins maiden singles title

Argentina's Carlos Berlocq beats Fernando Verdasco in straight sets in Bastad to win the first ATP Tour singles title of his career.

Argentina's Carlos Berlocq has won the first ATP Tour singles title of his career.

The 30-year-old triumphed at the Swedish Open in Bastad by beating eighth seed Fernando Verdasco 7-5 6-1 in Sunday's final.

Berlocq, whose highest career ranking came in March 2012 when he climbed to 37th in the world, is currently placed 64th in the ATP standings.

He has one doubles title to his name, having won the Mercedes Cup in Stuttgart with Eduardo Schwank in 2010.

However, he will be looking to improve that statistic later this evening, as he is competing in the men's doubles final in Bastad alongside partner Albert Ramos.
