Berdych through in Rome

Tomas Berdych has progressed through to the quarter-finals of the Rome Masters after seeing off the challenge of Kevin Anderson.

Anderson competed well with his higher-ranked opponent in the opening set, but once Berdych broke serve to edge ahead, he upped his performance to secure a 7-5 6-2 win.

The South African broke Berdych's serve early on in the first set, but the Czech player broke back to level at 5-5.

Berdych was beginning to look the stronger of the two, and after he went a set in front, he didn't look back as he raced into a 5-2 lead in the second.

He soon created three match points in the next game, and although Anderson saved the first two, Berdych fired a forehand winner on the third to set up a clash with Novak Djokovic.
